Why I Became a Doula:

It’s always just felt like the right choice. I knew several of the OG doulas back in the 90’s growing up in Snohomish County and use to talk to bother them regularly about their job. The profession has changed in so many ways since then but the core of it is still all about holding space for one of life’s most intense experiences. Deep care by a doula, a friend, a partner, or a physician during labor can become a guidepost in a moment that can feel unpredictable or uncertain. At the core of it I believe that when people feel radically cared for during the most radical moments of their life that cared for feeling permeates the memory of that experience.

When I Became a Doula:

Oh, about 6 years ago now. Whenever it was that the Seahawks won the super bowl. We were in class that evening and I thought the city had exploded as I drove home. After going through the DONA doula training through the Simkin Center I did several apprenticeships with a few of the more experienced doulas in the area. After that I just took off. I learn something new with every birth I do and every family I do postpartum care for teaches me how to be a better doula. In my time as a doula I’ve attended over 35 births and have worked for over 45 families as a postpartum doula.

Things I love!

Fall camp fires, small carpentry projects, sushi, traveling and podcasts.

What Am I Probably Doing Right Now?

If I’m not in a birth? Trying to beat Mario 64 and absolutely FAILING! Either that or rocking out to music and cooking dinner in my kitchen.
